What You Should Know About Transfer Pumps?

Transfer pumps are used for transferring fluid from one point to another. They can be used for RV's, construction equipment, carpet cleaning, waste materials and agriculture spraying equipment.

Transfer pumps use a gasoline, diesel, AC or DC motor for power and they work by creating suction that is created by the chambers of the pump. They are self priming and many are capable of being run dry.

Transfer pumps are an excellent way of transferring fluids. They are designed in different sizes and types, making it possible to find a unit that is suitable for every job.

Basic Information about Transfer Pumps

Although there are different types of transfer pumps available most all of them include these basic features:

  • 3 chamber pump head
  • Priming capabilities
  • 12 VDC battery
  • Certifications
  • Temperature maximum limit
  • Fitting options

It is important to make sure that you purchase the right transfer pump for the job intended. Don't try to use a small pump for a large job or a pump designed for one particular type of job for a different fluid.

Choosing the Right Transfer Pumps

To choose the right pump you need to understand how they work. The suction created by the chambers pulls the fluid into the pump. The fluid then moves through the unit and is pushed out the exit and into its intended destination. You need the correct size pump for the type of job you are doing. You also need to make sure that you have the correct fittings that will securely attach to the pump and the object being cleaned.

Your first decision is to decide for what purpose you will be using the transfer pump. Some are used for flammable fluids and others for non-flammable fluids. You cannot use a non-flammable pump to transfer flammable material.

You will also find that there are other restrictions placed on these pumps. If you use a pump for a fluid it is not designed for, then it could damage the unit and cause contamination problems. To determine what size pump you need, think about the amount of fluid that will be transferred and how high the fluid will need to be pumped.

Transfer pumps are wonderful inventions that make transferring fluids easier and safer. Make sure you choose the right pump for the job you plan to perform.
